The Noosa Day Respite Centre offers basic maintenance and support services to the frail, aged, and younger people with a disability, and their carers living in the Noosa Shire. The Centre is funded by the Home and Community Care Program which is a cost-shared program between the Commonwealth and State Governments, and auspiced by Noosa Council.
Eligibility for services is assessed by the Manager. Health care professionals, family members, friends, neighbours or Shire residents may contact the Manager directly to establish eligibility. The Manager will then contact the potential client to assess suitable services to meet the person’s needs.
A nominal fee is payable for services. Morning and afternoon teas and lunch are included in the daily Centre fee. If fees cause financial concern this should be discussed with the Manager who may be able to arrange fee relief.
The Day Respite Centre offers a support service for the carers of the Shire as well as providing social opportunities for individuals who may live alone or simply wish to mix with others in the same situation. An activities programme is organised by the trained, skilled staff and volunteers with input from the clients.
The Centre is open between 8:45 am and 4:00 pm weekdays except public holidays. Whilst at the Centre clients can attend the following services if needed: physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, advice from a dietician, podiatry and hairdressing.
A door to door bus service is provided by the Centre and is accessible by those using a walking frame or wheelchair. The bus trip is an outing in itself. Clients may also make their own way to the Centre if they wish.
Clients with dementia are well cared for by the friendly caring staff and volunteers allowing the carers to relax, knowing the person they look after is in a secure and thoughtful environment.
Care & Share morning tea and activities sessions are held on the first and third Wednesdays of the month 9.30 to 11.30 am in the Uniting Church Hall in Pomona and on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month in the C.W.A. Hall, Cooroy.
An In-home respite service is available on weekdays. This service assists the primary carer by allowing them time off from the caring role while a substitute carer provides supervision and assistance.
Assistance is given with minor dwelling repairs and maintenance of the home, garden or yard to keep it in a safe and habitable condition. Modification or renovations are also carried out to help people with disabilities to be as independent as possible (eg grab rails, ramps, appropriate tap sets).
Assistance with transport to and from medical appointments is provided.
Social support may take the form of assistance with shopping and transport for someone with limited mobility.
A "substitute carer" can also accompany people on an outing, allowing the primary carer to remain at home alone or go out with friends.
Assistance in the home with bathing, toileting, dressing and grooming can be provided.
Carers meet the first Tuesday of the month at the Centre at 1.30 pm. A representative from the Queensland Council of Carers attends each meeting, and a guest speaker is sometimes organised.
For further details on any of the above please contact the Manager on (07) 54490931.
