Ceiling Hoist users Club

Accessible bathroom with ceiling track hoist at Holiday Inn Bloomsbury UK

CHuC (the Ceiling Hoist users Club) was set up by Equal Ability to promote the interests of travellers with disability who need to use hoists and particularly those who need, or prefer, ceiling track hoists.

The lack of ceiling track hoists in away from home accommodation (hotels, guest houses and self-catering accommodation) severely limits the opportunity for many people with physical disability to travel for leisure, business or important social events.

The Ceiling Hoist users Club are looking for information about accessible accommodation that has fixed track ceiling hoists with either permanent or transportable hoists in bedroom and bathroom areas. They are trying to collect this information from all around the world so that there is an online accommodation directory for ceiling track hoist users. Details of suitable accommodation and transport (even equipment suppliers) are displayed on the CHuC website for free.

The club's aims are:

Ceiling Hoist users Club have been working closely with Intercontinental Hotels Group in the UK who have recently installed hoists in 3 of their flagship London hotels and are shortly to expand this to further hotels across the UK now that they have proved there is a market.

CHuC needs your help. Do you know of any accommodation, transport (ferries, cruise ships) that have fixed ceiling hoists? If you do please contact the club and they will follow up and add the details to their online resource.
