Feedback on synthetic speech

EASI are requesting feedback on an initiative to incorporate synthetic speech as part of their online course slides. They are especially interested in hearing how people who do not have much experience with synthetic speech feel and react to it.

EASI sample presentation and feedback form

The mp3 speech file for the sample presentation has been created using Spoken Text, a free online text conversion service established by Mark McKay who has low vision. The company's aim is to make the conversion of text to speech as simple as possible and in so doing make it accessible to everyone.

In addition to creating audio for educational resources and online learning, the software allows you to record (English, French or German) PDF, Word, plain text, PowerPoint files, RSS news feeds, emails and web pages, and converts them to speech automatically. The recording can then be downloaded as an iPod book or mp3 file.
